Important phrasal verbs for travel

phrasal verbs for travel

In this English lesson you will hear some important phrasal verbs for travel that we use in English. This lesson is aimed at people studying B2 level English or above. Phrasal verbs are often difficult for English students to learn. It is important to associate this type of verb with a concept, for example, TRAVEL.

I remember the last time I went overseas we booked a room at a nice hotel.

We got to the hotel early to check in. However, the room had not been cleaned so we had to wait.

A friend came to the hotel to pick us up and we went out for dinner. We had a lovely time and after the meal our friend dropped us off at the hotel.

The next day we arranged to meet again and go to visit a nearby town. We set off early in the morning by car.

What a wonderful town it was.

On the way back to the hotel we were held up in traffic. We had a 30 minute delay but we arrived safely.

The return

We checked out of the hotel and caught a taxi to the airport.

Our plane was set to take off at 1pm so we had to check in quickly.

We arrived home and went straight to bed. I was great to get away for the weekend.

Try to practice these phrasal verbs for travel the next time you go on a holiday.
