English expression – Rub up the wrong way

By Admin Leave a Comment

rub up the wrong way

This is another common English expression that we use on a regular basis.

If you rub someone up the wrong way you bother, irritate, annoy them.

You piss someone off. You get under their skin. Maybe it is something you say. Maybe it is something you do. In any case. You irritate the other person.

I remember when I was a child that I always used to rub my sisters up the wrong way. I really uses to annoy them. In fact, I used to like to see them angry.

Examples:

He really rubs me up the wrong way. I don’t like to go out with him.

You are really starting to rub me up the wrong way. Stop it!
