Work and Working vocabulary

work and working vocabulary

There is lots of  WORK and WORKING vocabulary in English. In this lesson you will learn some of the main words we use to talk about this topic.

I am an English teacher. That is my job. I am not employed because I work for myself.

Is English teaching a job or a career? I think it we could call it a career.

The dictionary defines career as:

an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s life and with opportunities for progress.

So, there might not be a lot of opportunities for progress but it is an occupation that can last a while.

I am normally at work about 8 hours a day. Fortunately, I have been in work most of my adult life.

Both full-time and part-time work are common nowadays.

Most people I know work full-time. That means they work about 40 hours per week.

I worked part-time when I was younger. I worked evenings at a pizza restaurant while I was at university.

By working part-time I was able to pay off my studies. No student-loan debt for me.

I consider myself to be a hard worker. and I don’t think that I am over worked or under worked.

My workload is average and I my workplace is at home.

I used to work harder than I do now. A few years ago I would work like a dog, but now like to have more free time.

I have friends that are workaholics and they work until they drop. They work their asses off trying to get a promotion. Is it really worth it?
